I read about them in the newspapers. I saw them being portrayed on TV. I have never met them personally and I have no idea how to find loan sharks.
But they found me.
I had been away from home last weekend and went straight to work on Monday. In the afternoon, I received a call from my grandmother who is staying with me asking whether I was coming home for dinner.
Then she told me that some people had splashed paint on our front door and had padlocked the gate. She was in the house the entire time and didn’t know what had happened.
It was my next-door neighbour who saw the “artwork” and called the police. The police came and cut the lock and asked questions. There was of course the “Owe $ Pay $” notice on a nearby wall with the lender’s unit no. Alas, by the time I got home, the town council had came and whitewashed it away (hmm, that is very fast). But the streaks of paint on my front door remained.
I complained to my grandma about neighbours who might think that I borrowed money from loan sharks without the notice. She consoled and said that neighbours might think that this 80-year old lady (pointing to herself) owe loan shark money. I couldn’t help but laugh.
I know I can clean the paint and repaint the door but I was concerned about the loan sharks coming back and doing something more drastic like set fire. Worse, grandma was home alone most of the time. I began to scheme and plan. As my mind buzzed with revenge and what-ifs, the Holy Spirit reminded me of the anointing oil.
I stand corrected. I should rest in the almighty power of Abba God to protect me and my household. I shall place the anointing oil all around the entrance to my house, pray for divine protection and rest fully on Jesus Christ.
Thank you Father God for REST.
