This post contains the lyrics for O Praise the Name (Anástasis) by Hillsong Worship. Link to the chords and a Chinese translation are included.
I heard this song in church and was immediately drawn to it. I was intrigued by the word “Anástasis” in the title and so I looked it up.
It is Greek for resurrection. Jesus’ resurrection gave us hope for the future, hope despite our failings. I saw Christian leaders failed publicly this year and it dismayed me. But when I turned my eyes to Jesus (like in the lyrics, cast my mind to Calvary), all these does not seem to matter. When I reflect on the story of the Cross, of resurrection, I realised it is a rescue mission for failed people.
I cast my mind to Calvary
Where Jesus bled and died for me
I see His wounds His hands His feet
My Saviour on that cursed tree
His body bound and drenched in tears
They laid Him down in Joseph’s tomb
The entrance sealed by heavy stone
Messiah still and all alone
O praise the Name of the Lord our God
O praise His Name forevermore
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord oh Lord our God
And then on the third at break of dawn
The Son of heaven rose again
O trampled death where is your sting
The angels roar for Christ the King
He shall return in robes of white
The blazing sun shall pierce the night
And I will rise among the saints
My gaze transfixed on Jesus face
